Acadia National Park-Day Five

Well, unfortunately we have reached the last day of our vacation in Acadia National Park. I woke up that morning around 6 am and it was raining. Not ready to get up yet, I rolled back over in the sleeping bag. The kids in the neighboring campsite actually stayed quiet, so we slept until 8:30. We finally dragged ourselves out of bed and made pancake surprise for breakfast. We left around 10:15 and headed to the small Abbe Museum in the park. It had a lot of artifacts from the native people who lived on Mt. Desert Island. There were a lot of arrowheads and stone tools. There is another Abbe Museum located in downtown Bar Harbor, we went to that one after wards. There were a lot more exhibits. You can visit their website to learn more (click here). They are very affordable museums and we really enjoyed them. Also, the museum downtown has a great gift shop. Hubby got a book of tribal stories and I got a pair of birch bark earrings made by a Native American artist.

After visiting the museum, we went to walk around Bar Harbor. We chanced upon Fiore, which sells artisan olive oils and vinegars. You are welcome to taste everything. They had several flavored olive oils, including Persian Lime and blood orange. They also had other oils, like sesame and one of our favorites, walnut oil. They also had flavored, aged balsamic vinegar. Our favorite was the black cherry. Being speciality oils and vinegars,  they are a little more expensive, $15 for 375 ml. But they sure are tasty. We bought a variety pack of oils for ourselves and a bottle of raspberry balsamic vinegar for a colleague who was watching our kitty cats.

After that, we went to Sand Beach, Thunder Hole, and Otter Cliffs on our way back to the campground. It was a grey day with a storm approaching, and the water was crashing all over against the rocks, which I think is the best way to see it. Here are some pictures for that area.

Thunder Hole. The crashing water really does sound like thunder.

Hubby and I were headed to dinner that evening. It as June 24th that day, which is our anniversary. But this was a special anniversary for us, because that was our 5 year anniversary :)  We were going to dinner at the Jordan Pond House. We were finally going to have steamed lobster, which Maine is known for. The Jordan Pond House is also known for it's popovers, which were quite yummy. We had some delicious steamed mussels for an appetizer. Steamed lobster was about what I expected. The only flavor you get is from dipping it in butter. Nothing like the boiled lobsters and crawfish from back home. We had blueberry crumble for dessert. It was a nice way to end our week in Acadia.

Lobster, it's what's for dinner!!

After dinner, we quickly stopped, first to catch a picture of a carriage house, and two to catch a picture of  Seal Harbor in the evening.

Afterwards we went to camp to prepare for our departure the next.

Acadia National Park was an amazing vacation. I seriously want to move to Maine now and have this National Park in my backyard. Guess I need to work on winning the lottery.

Hubby and I head to Thomas Jefferson's home, Monticello, this weekend. We are very exciting since we have never been before. I should have a blog post or two about that next week.
